Our infamous Taro Mooncake is back! But what makes it so famous in the first place?

So famous that we're featured in the news. First of all, we follow the traditional Teochew Spiral Taro Mooncake recipe — flaky, layered pastry wrapped around smooth, freshly blended taro paste.

Here's what makes our Taro Mooncake truly special

We use imported taro (芋头) grown in Dajia district aka Taiwan’s “Taro Capital” (大甲) — prized as one of the best taros in the world for its rich flavour, fine texture, and beautiful natural lavender marbling.

Why Dajia-grown taro from Taiwan?

	Dajia Taro	Regular Taro
Flavour Intensity	Rich, nutty-sweet aroma with a natural creaminess. Many describe it as having a chestnut-like sweetness with a lingering aftertaste	Milder, more starchy, sometimes bland if not fully matured. Sweetness is less pronounced.
Texture	Fine, dense, and smooth with a “powdery” or “fluffy” mouthfeel when cooked. This quality makes it ideal for desserts (taro balls, cakes, mooncakes, ice cream).	Coarser texture, often more fibrous. Some may feel watery or gummy when steamed.
Aroma	Strong, distinct fragrance that carries through cooking. The aroma is part of why it’s prized for premium pastries and desserts in Taiwan.	Weak or neutral aroma; tends to act as a filler ingredient rather than a star flavour.
Colour	Pale purple or lavender hue with natural marbling. The pigmentation adds visual appeal, especially in desserts.	Usually white or off-white with less purple marbling.

The result? A mooncake that’s so pretty to look at (sometimes too pretty till you don't want to eat it).
